General Information

The Master-in-Equity Court provides a relatively quick and inexpensive means of litigation resolution for civil non-jury matters. The Master's Court hears most foreclosure cases, and a sizable number of other civil cases such as land partitions, judicial sales, and actions to collect on judgments. Any case which could otherwise be heard in the Court of Common Pleas without a jury can be referred to the Master, and anyone filing a civil case who waives the right to a jury trial can ask to have their case referred to Master-in-Equity Court. Parties may not initiate action in the Master's Court, however. Only cases assigned by the Circuit Court through an Order of Reference may be heard by the Master-in-Equity. Case Inquiries

The Master's Court "shares" computerized case records with the Clerk of Court. Cases referred to the Master are updated with the referral date, then the Master's office officially opens the case as a "Master's case" by assigning a unique Master's case file number. Cases which have been referred to the Master may be located on the Public Access System through either the original Common Pleas case ID, or through the Master's file number.

Master's case information may be retrieved by linking to the Interactive Search for Public Access Cases at this WEB site. Automated access to case-related information is available free of charge, seven days a week.
